HZ5 climate-engineered board
James Hardie makes two formulations. Colorado gets HZ5, engineered for cold, dry, freeze-thaw climates — not the HZ10 board meant for the humid South. It's the first thing to ask any installer: if they can't tell you which they're spec'ing, keep looking.
Class A fire rating
Fiber cement carries the highest fire-resistance rating for residential exteriors. It won't feed a fire the way vinyl or wood siding can — which matters near the foothills and the wildland edge.
Weather barrier behind every board
A code-listed weather-resistive barrier goes on before a single board — the stage shown at the top of this page. Any water that slips past the siding drains down the wrap instead of soaking into your sheathing.
Correct fastening, gaps & flashing
Blind-nailed to the studs with corrosion-resistant fasteners, proper clearances above grade and roofs, and flashing tied into the wrap at every window, door, and roof-wall junction — not caulk alone.
ColorPlus factory finish
ColorPluscolor is baked on at the factory, not brushed on in the field — engineered to resist high-altitude UV fade far longer than field paint, with no on-site coat to chalk or peel.
